Group winner Half Sovereign took the lead at Arqana's Vente d'Elevage when selling for €2.6 million to Henry Lascelles on Saturday evening.

A winner of the G3 Prix Miesque for Karl Burke, lot 195 is a granddaughter of the stakes-placed Wedding Party (Groom Dancer), who foaled a trio of black-type horses.

Consign, Ltd., offered the juvenile filly, who was acquired by Burke for just 12,000gns out of the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sale.

Bred by Haras des Trois Chapelles, the Spratt Properties and Elaine Burke-owned bay is a daughter of Baileys Afterparty (Supplicant).

“It's brilliant,” said Karl Burke. “She comes back to us as well, so it's a win-win situation. I didn't expect that. She was just a lovely model. I worked the Somerville with Elaine, my wife, and we just loved her. We couldn't believe we got her for 12 grand. Literally, before I signed the docket, Mick Easterby came up and offered me a grand profit.

“Luckily for Adam [Spratt], a friend of his came up and said, 'Would you sell half of her?' I hadn't met Adam at that time, but I said, 'Yeah, no problem.' He's a lovely guy and we would have sold half of her to somebody, so I'm delighted it was him.”

Burke added of the next targets for Half Sovereign, “We'll see how she trains, we've got a lot of good yardsticks, but I would have thought it would be a French trial and then the French Guineas.”
