Henny Hughes's Beholder Gives Spendthrift Second Eclipse

Spendthrift Farm LLC’s Beholder (Henny Hughes–Leslie’s Lady, by Triple Creek) easily outpointed Executiveprivilege (First Samurai) to win the Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old filly Saturday evening. A $180,000 yearling acquisition, the May foal missed by just a nose in the GI Del Mar Debutante S. and recorded a 108 Beyer in taking a Santa Anita sprint allowance in October. She was under consideration for a run in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint, but was ultimately set for the GI Juvenile Fillies, where she handed the previously unbeaten Executiveprivilege a one-length defeat. Beholder is a half-sister to the successful young sire Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday), who stands at Spendthrift. Owner B. Wayne Hughes was winning his second Eclipse, having been represented by 2003 champion juvenile Action This Day (Kris S.).
