'He Just Took Off': O'Brien Wowed By TDN Rising Star Wall Street

Overcoming greenness on debut at Leopardstown on Thursday evening, Ballydoyle's millionaire Wall Street (Sea The Stars) became the stable's latest TDN Rising Star, Presented by Hagyard.

Slowly away in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden over a mile, the 7-1 shot was cajoled into contention by Wayne Lordan and managed to rescue a seemingly lost cause with a late rattle to overhaul the Joseph O'Brien-trained fellow newcomer Jesus Green (Ghaiyyath) by half a length. The winner's stablemate Drumbeat (Wootton Bassett), who brought valuable experience to the contest, was the same margin away in third after cutting out most of the running.

The winner, the top-priced colt at the 2024 Tattersalls December Foal Sale when selling for 1million gns, is out of a half to the operation's Group 2 winner and multiple Group 1-placed I Can Fly (Fastnet Rock) who is in turn responsible for the high-class January (Kingman). He follows in the steps of last year's winner of this race for colts and geldings, Sea The Stars's fellow TDN Rising Star and eventual Prix du Jockey Club third Montreal.

“He's a lovely big colt and although he was a little bit backwards and behind the bridle going down to the start, when I got stuck into him he opened up and went through the line pretty good,” Lordan said. “He has plenty of class and he'll end up alright.”

Aidan O'Brien added of the sire's 25th TDN Rising Star, “We liked him and thought he had quality and he is obviously a good horse–he just took off. For him to do that, he had to be good as they didn't go very quick. He's a big horse and he will come on tons I'd say. He would have learnt a lot and finished very strong. We'll have to go into Listed or Group races now and he'll be ready for all those races.”

Adding his name to a list of the sire's TDN Rising Stars which includes Sea The Moon, Crystal Ocean, Star Catcher, Emily Upjohn, Aventure, Maltese Cross and Alpha, Wall Street is the first foal out of the twice-raced maiden Angel's Point (Dark Angel), whose second is a daughter of Study Of Man sold for 180,000gns to JP Bloodstock at last year's Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

Angel's Point aforementioned half-sister I Can Fly, who was runner-up in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and third in the Sussex and Falmouth, is in turn responsible for the high-class January (Kingman) who also placed three times at the highest level in the Falmouth, Fillies' Mile and Coronation Stakes. Also kin to the dam of the Long Island Stakes scorer Alluring Angel (Fastnet Rock), she hails from the family of the stable's ill-fated Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Keeneland Turf Mile hero Landseer (Danehill), the Prince of Wales's Stakes-placed Ikhtyar (Unfuwain) and the Nassau Stakes third Moneycantbuymelove (Pivotal).
