Group 1 Winner Thunder Snow Tops Late Triple Crown Nominations

Godolphin's Thunder Snow (Ire), winner of last fall's G1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud and the G3 UAE 2,000 Guineas at Meydan Feb. 11, tops a list of six 3-year-olds made eligible to participate in the American Triple crown, it was announced Wednesday following the conclusion of the late nomination phase. The late nominees raised total nominations to 425–pending late mail–for the series of American classic races for 3-year-olds that includes the May 6 GI Kentucky Derby, May 20 GI Preakness S. and June 10 GI Belmont S.

Thunder Snow is entered to face 15 rivals in Saturday's G2 UAE Derby at Meydan–a race which awards the winner 100 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby. Other late nominees include 'TDN Rising Star' Parlor (Lonhro {Aus})–entered in Saturday's GIII JACK Cincinnati Casino Spiral S. [click here for more]–as well as Hollywood Handsome (Tapizar), More Than Words (More Than Ready), Rapid Dial (Dialed In) and Stretch's Stone (Bustin Stones).

Late nominations to the Triple Crown required a payment of $6,000 for each nominated 3-year-old. The early nomination period, during which 419 horses were made eligible for the three-race series, closed Jan. 14 and required payment of $600.
