Group 1 Sire Diamond Green Dead at 19

GSW and French Classic-placed Diamond Green (Fr) (Green Desert-Diamonaka {Fr}, by Akarad {Fr}) has passed away from a heart attack after covering a mare at Haras des Etincelles on Friday, the stud announced on Facebook Saturday morning. The half-brother to MGSW & G1SP Diamilina (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}) was 19. A winner of the G3 Prix la Rochette as a juvenile for Andre Fabre, the Lagardere homebred would go on to finish second three times at Group 1 level-the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and St. James's Palace S. Raced briefly be His Highness the Aga Khan and later on Alain Falourd and Robert Trussell, the bay eventually made his way Stateside to the care of Bobby Frankel. Carrying the colours of Stonerside Stable, Trussell and Falourd, he earned three more graded placings.

Retired to stud with four wins from 18 starts and $491,886 in earnings, the son of the MGSP Diamonaka stood at Ballyhane Stud from 2007-2010 and then moved to Haras des Granges from 2011-2017. From 2018-2019, he held court at Haras du Lion and was standing his first season-priced at €2,500–at Haras des Etincelles in 2020.

His best runner, and one of three black-type winners, was Watsdachances (Ire), who won the GI Beverly D S. in America. His runners have also proven useful over jumps. This is the family of European highweight of English/Irish Classic hero Capri (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).
