“Great Result All Round”: Porta Fortuna Knocked Down To MV Magnier For 4.5m Gns

Queen of the course and queen of the ring, four-time Group 1 winner Porta Fortuna (Caravaggio) was knocked down for 4.5 million gns to MV Magnier during Tuesday's Sceptre Sessions of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, the daughter of winner Too Precious (Holy Roman Emperor) has the option of racing again.

Bred by Whisperview Trading, the four-year-old filly is out of a full-sister to multiple group winner Numerian, second in the G1 Australian Cup and G1 Doomben Cup. Porta Fortuna raced for Medallion Racing, Steve Weston, Reeves Thoroughbred and Barry Fowler.

Lot 1734 has only been worse than third once in her career. At two, she won the G3 Fillies Sprint Stakes before the G3 Albany Stakes and the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes. She was also second in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Trained by Donnacha O'Brien, the filly added the G1 Coronation Stakes, G1 Falmouth Stakes and G1 Matron Stakes at three. At four, she made one start, good for a victory in the G2 Lanwades Stud Stakes in Ireland in May.

Said O'Brien, “It was a great result all round. She's happy and healthy and we got a great price. I am happy that MV and Coolmore has bought her. She will go back, presumably somewhere close to where she has been trained, which is nice. To be honest, once she got off the box here looking well, that was my job over. Obviously, the Taylor Made guys had their job here and they produced her looking amazing. It went great, thankfully.”
