Slam Dunk | Coady

10th-Churchill Downs, $96,839, Msw, 11-7, 2yo, f, 1m, 1:38.66, sy.
SLAM DUNK (f, 2, Into Mischief–Easy Slam, by Grand Slam) was dropping back into maiden company off a very solid third-place effort in the GI Frizette S. when last spotted at Belmont Oct. 6 and made light work of the Churchill finale Thursday, easing home 5 1/2 lengths to the good of Loaded (Ghostzapper). Away without incident from the middle of the gate, the $185,000 Keeneland November weanling and $450,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling raced by her lonesome in fourth as a three-way battle for the lead developed about five lengths ahead of her. Racing in the clear and out of any kickback over the sloppy strip on the turn, Slam Dunk began to zero in on the leaders approaching the stretch, inhaled them at will three off the inside with better than a furlong to race and was taken in hand by Ricardo Santana, Jr. for the final 100 yards. Favored at 9-4 for her Saratoga debut July 31, she was off a bit tardily and made a bit of a move into the stretch, but faded out to be fifth behind next-out GI Spinaway S. third Figure of Speech (Into Mischief). She ran into another tough customer in the form of subsequent GISP Alandra (Blame), finishing second to that foe in a seven-furlong Spa maiden Sept. 1 and was six lengths adrift of 'TDN Rising Star' Wicked Whisper (Liam's Map) in the Frizette. A half-sister to Kitten Kaboodle (Kitten's Joy), GSW, $129,000, Slam Dunk is the latest produce for her dam. Sales history: $185,000 Wlg '17 KEENOV; $450,000 Ylg '18 FTSAUG. Lifetime Record:4-1-1-1, $124,012. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
