Gleneagles' Silence Please Stays Unbeaten In the Salsabil

Silence Please | Racing Post

Unsurprisingly given her record in 2019 with her 2-year-old fillies, Jessie Harrington was at the forefront at Navan on Wednesday as the 10-1 shot Silence Please (Ire) (Gleneagles {Ire}) edged out One Voice (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) for a one-two in the 10-furlong Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Salsabil S. Held up with one behind early, Gary Barber and Team Valor International's Silence Please who went two-for-two when defying topweight in a seven-furlong nursery at Cork in September responded to Tom Madden's urgings to reel in One Voice in the final stride and prevail by a nose, with 1 3/4 lengths back to Raven's Cry (Ire) (Raven's Pass) in third.

Following a seven-furlong Gowran Park maiden win in July with her Cork nursery win, the bay needed stoking up in early straight but was ultra-game and was perhaps winning against a possible rail bias as she earned her Classic tilt. “We knew on their homework that there was very little between them and it was just unfortunate that one of them had to get beat,” Kate Harrington commented. “Silence Please did very well over the winter. She only ever goes through the motions at home. It'll be interesting to see where she goes now. When she steps up to a mile and a half, I think you'll see a better filly again. She's in the Irish Oaks and she could go there. One Voice has got an entry for the [G2] Ribblesdale [at Royal Ascot June 16] next week.”

Silence Please is out of the former Moyglare Stud mare Crazy Volume, who produced the G1 Grand Prix de Paris and G1 Sydney Cup hero Gallante (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) and is a granddaughter of the Irish champion miler Easy To Copy. That links her to the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Trusted Partner (Affirmed) and her high-class daughter Dress To Thrill (Ire) (Danehill). Crazy Volume's next two progeny are by Camelot (GB), with the 2-year-old filly named Party House (Ire) and the yearling being an unnamed colt.
