Lows Snap Up $1.6M Girvin Filly at OBS

Cataloged as hip 1221 as part of the supplemental catalog for the OBS April Sale, a filly by Girvin–Soma (Curlin) was hammered down to Robert and Lawana Low for $1.6 million, in so doing becoming the last of seven horses to fetch $1 million or more over the course of the four-day auction in Central Florida.

Bred in Kentucky by Jim and Donna Daniell, the Mar. 7 foal is out of an unplaced half-sister to GSW Celestial City (Uncle Mo) and was consigned to the sale by Top Line Sales, as agent.

“The quality always shows through in the end, and the money follows,” said Top Line's Jimbo Gladwell. “That filly Torie and my dad and Carlo [Vaccarezza] picked out at Keeneland has exceeded every expectation we had for her. She's improved every single day since we've had her in our care.

“Today she really showed up in a big way and absolutely brought down the house at the end. I couldn't be happier with how things turned out.

“I wish [bloodstock agent] Jacob West and the Lows all the best of luck going forward.”

The bay filly, a $165,000 Keeneland September yearling, hails from the first Kentucky-conceived crop by Girvin, who relocated from nearby Ocala Stud to Airdrie Stud for the 2023 breeding season.

Hip 1221 breezed her eighth of a mile in a bullet :9 3/5 during the under-tack preview.
