Galileo's Order of St George Back With Easy Win In the Saval Beg

Order Of St George | Racing Post

Returning under a seven-pound penalty as a result of his emphatic success in the G1 Irish St Leger at The Curragh in September, Order of St George gave his backers little cause for concern under a cool ride from Donnacha O'Brien. This time last year, the bay was still missing from the 3-year-old scene having created a striking impression with an 8 1/2-length maiden win and finished runner-up in the Listed Eyrefield S. here as a juvenile but quickly made up for lost time with wins in the G3 Irish St Leger Trial and the main event itself by a cumulative margin of 18 1/2 lengths. Anchored in a distant fourth early, he was produced with perfect timing to sweep past the long-time leader Fact Or Folklore with 200 yards remaining en route to an easy comeback success. “The most important thing was that he settled, and he settled really well,” Joseph O'Brien commented. “Donnacha said he was always happy and just gave him a little squeeze when he straightened up. Dad was a bit worried about his fitness and he had to come here if he was going to Ascot [for the June 16 G1 Gold Cup]. Donnacha said he handled the ground well, and he won on it at Down Royal last year. I don't think the ground is a big thing for him, he's handled soft and he's handled it quick. He's just a good horse.” Order of St George is a grandson of the champion 2-year-old filly Storm Song (Summer Squall), who also produced the GII San Fernando S. runner-up Balladry (Unbridled's Song) and the GI Wood Memorial second Trojan Nation (Street Cry {Ire}). Storm Song's ill-fated half-sister Diamond Omi (Giant's Causeway) captured the GII Oak Leaf S., while another of her half-siblings was responsible for the GIII Northern Dancer Breeders' Cup S.-winning sire High Cotton (Dixie Union). Another Storm has a 2-year-old filly by Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) named Arwa (Ire) and yearling colt by Declaration of War. Click for the Racing Post result. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
