Fast Anna Gets First Stakes Winner at Woodbine

Fast Scene | Michael Burns

Fast Scene invaded from her Presque Isle home base to post an impressive 2 1/2-length victory on debut here June 15, and became the first black-type winner for her first-crop sire (by Medaglia d'Oro) with an even sharper tally in Saturday's My Dear S. Having returned to Erie after her unveiling to breeze a half-mile in :47 4/5 over the Tapeta, the dark bay split horses early here to take over and post splits of 21.80 and :45.62 en route to a dominant performance.

“She was looking at the other horse next to her, but as soon as she put her feet on the ground, she just picked it up,” said winning jockey Rafael Hernandez in a post-race interview. “She was awesome, unbelievable today.”

Scooter Davis, assistant to trainer and co-owner Tim Hamm, added, “Scott Spieth worked her at Presque Isle and the first thing he said was, 'This filly has a good mind on her.' She's fast, but we thought even if she wasn't on the lead, she could rate and go on. She's got a lot of ability, for sure… Hopefully we'll come back here, she seems to like it.”

Fast Scene is out of a full-sister to the good SW/GSP turf sprinter Supreme. Her second dam is a full to GI Kentucky Derby hero Monarchos. Scenic Drive produced a Mineshaft filly last year and a Gun Runner colt this term.
