Ticonderoga just missed as the favorite first up at Saratoga Aug. 13, and was backed all the way down to 1-2 to go one better here while adding blinkers. Settling in midpack off a hot opening quarter of :22.98 and more reasonable :47.14 half, the $850,000 KEESEP yearling circled up widest turning for home and swept to the fore convincingly en route to a dominant 4 1/4-length success. Well-bred longshot American Deluxe (Americain), a half-brother to GISW V. E. Day (English Channel), spiced up the exacta. The winner is the first foal out of a five-time graded stake winning turf marathoner who went under the hammer for $1 million at the 2013 KEEJAN sale. She is responsible for a yearling full-sister to the winner and foaled a Kitten's Joy colt this term before being bred back to War Front. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $61,600.
