Runner-up on debut in a six-furlong maiden on Lingfield's Polytrack May 29, Royal Intervention received a boost when the winner of that contest Octave (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}) ran second to the generation leader Calyx (GB) (Kingman {GB}) here and she leapt forward from that effort under a masterful front-running ride from Gerald Mosse. Always travelling easily on the front end, the chestnut who is a half-sister to the 2006 GI Beverly D S. winner Gorella (Fr) (Grape Tree Road {GB}) relished the uphill climb to the line to score with authority from Strings of Life and the well-regarded Impulsion. “I was not surprised, as she ran very well first time when she was a bit green but really hit the line,” Mosse said. “She wasn't getting tired there and was quite keen again here. She has speed and ability and is better in front, as she has a big stride.”
Gorella, who was also third in the GI Breeders' Cup Mile, is one of now five stakes performers out of Exciting Times (Fr) (Jeune Homme) with the other notable being the Listed Prix Omnium scorer Porto Santo (Fr) (Kingsalsa), who also finished third in the G1 Criterium International. Exciting Times is a half-sister to two black-type performers including the G3 Prix de Royaumont runner-up Enquiry (Darshaan {GB}), while her third dam Crepellana (Crepello {GB}) took the G1 Prix de Diane. Also from the family of the G1 St. James's Palace S. and GI Hollywood Derby runner-up Raykour (Ire) (Dalsaan {GB}), the dam's yearling filly is by Fastnet Rock (Aus).
