Espinoza on American Pharoah (inside) | A Coglianese

Jockey Victor Espinoza has been fined $15,000 by the New York State Gaming Commission for wearing advertising and promotional material without permission while riding American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) to a second-place finish in Saturday's GI Travers S.

State Steward Stephen Lewandowski said Monday that Espinoza was notified that his pants with his name on his leg were in violation of New York rules. Two other jockeys had names on their pants legs, Lewandowski said, and decided to use other apparel after they were notified by the stewards, but Espinoza elected not to change. Lewandowski said that Espinoza was told that he had failed to apply for permission to have advertising on his boots, yet wore them anyway.
