Saratoga Maidens, Presented by Keeneland
Spendthrift Farm homebred Effusive (f, 2, Into Mischief–Monomoy Girl, by Tapizar), the second foal out of two-time champion Monomoy Girl, kicked off her career with a professional-looking debut victory at a rainy Saratoga Saturday.
The rail-drawn 2-1 favorite was ridden along in fifth as Cruising Again (Charlatan) sped through an opening quarter in :22.22. Effusive was tipped off the rail by Manny Franco at the top of the stretch and bumped soundly with $650,000 OBS April breezer Key Colony Beach (Omaha Beach) as Cruising Again kicked for home with a three-length advantage.
Undeterred, Effusive recovered nicely, set her sights on the tiring leader from there and outkicked Key Colony Beach home to graduate by 1 1/4 lengths.
The final time for six furlongs over the sloppy and sealed going was 1:11.69.
Elevated (Flightline), a $600,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga graduate, was scratched after flipping over in the paddock.
The brilliant Monomoy Girl, winner of the GI Kentucky Oaks and a two-time winner of the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff, brought $9.5 million from Spendthrift Farm at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton November sale.
She is also represented by Provenance (Into Mischief), third in last year's GII Los Alamitos Futurity; and a Gun Runner colt of this year. She was bred back to Gun Runner for 2027.
