Dream On Just Lasts In Aqueduct's Woodhaven

Dream On | Lauren King

Dream On, who set the pace before tiring and finishing fifth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf last Nov. 5, reversed his form after fading out of contention into fifth when last seen in the Mar. 8 Columbia Stakes over the Tampa Bay Downs turf course. Third in last season's GI-Can Summer Stakes behind New Century (GB) (Kameko), GISW-Can, $323,176, he commenced his campaign with a Jan. 11 allowance score over a sixteenth further on the Gulfstream Park turf. Ridden by Javier Castellano, the 4-1 shot in the field of seven was up close along the inside behind the pacesetting Sounds Like a Plan through tepid fractions of :24.03, :49.25 and 1:13.30. Maneuvered off the rail turning for home, he surged past Sounds Like a Plan just inside the sixteenth pole and found just enough to hold Septarian's late charge safe by a diminishing neck.

Afterwards, Castellano said, “It seemed to me those two horses [Sounds Like a Plan and Cairo Caper (Cairo Prince)] had the speed today and I didn't want to hook up into a speed duel because on soft ground horses sometimes get into it too much and get tired at the end,” Castellano said. “I wanted to be more secure with the horse. It seemed to me; he can reach the distance if you're patient in the beginning of the race and he finished really well.”

His dam Mamma Kimbo, GSW, $242,250, won the 2012 GII Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park and has also produced the horse Balandeen (Bernardini), SW, $372,352. Recently, she had her first foal since Dream On, an Arabian Lion colt. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
