FLY AT DAWN (c, 3, Discreet Cat–Emirates Girl {SP-Ger & Fr}, by Unbridled's Song) endured a busy and fruitful juvenile campaign last year, winning three of six outings. A debut winner at Newmarket in July, he added a Kempton handicap three weeks later before running third in a conditions race over that same track. Returning to the winner's enclosure back at Newmarket when stepped up to a mile on Sept. 22, Fly At Dawn dropped to fifth when upped to a mile and two furlongs in the Listed Zetland S. Oct. 8. He was fifth on his local debut over this track and trip Dec. 29. Chasing from midpack off the rail in this UAE 2000 Guineas Trial, Fly At Dawn turned into the lane second-best behind the front-running Cosmo Charlie (Stay Thirsty). switched to that rival's outside at the top of the lane, Fly At Dawn overtook that valiant foe to win by 1 1/4 lengths. “He ran well, under a penalty, first time here and has improved a lot since,” said jockey Mickael Barzalona. “The plan was actually to make the running but we did not break that well so I was happy to take my time. The extra 200 metres of the UAE 2000 Guineas will certainly suit him and he will probably stay even further so the UAE Derby could be an option.” Fly At Dawn is the fifth foal out of French and German stakes-placed Emirates Girl, who produced a full-sister last year and was bred back to Amira's Prince (Ire). Lifetime Record: 7-4-1-1, $94,362. Click for the Racing Post result. VIDEO.
