Study of Man (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn} registered a two-length debut score going one mile at this track in his sole juvenile start Sept. 21 and ran second to Chilean (GB) (Iffraaj {GB}) in the Apr. 8 G3 Prix La Force upped to nine panels at ParisLongchamp on sophomore return last time. The homebred bay set a moderate tempo initially and accepted a tow in second as Assiro (GB) (Declaration of War) took over before halfway. Looming large once into the home straight, he led soon after passing the two pole and was ridden clear in the closing stages to secure a career high in impressive fashion. “There is no doubt he is very good, he has the attitude and temperament of a very good horse, and was truly convincing today,” commented trainer Pascal Bary after registering a fourth success in the contest. “The reason for defeat last time was the lack of a previous run this year and the very heavy ground. His action is much better on faster ground and he showed that in the way he lengthened today. We'll now discuss which option to go for and will decide if we go to Epsom [for the June 2 G1 Epsom Derby] or Chantilly [for the June 3 G1 Prix du Jockey Club].” Epsom is not on the cards for runner-up Alounak (Fr) (Camelot {GB}), who will point to Chantilly or Hamburg in his bid for Classic glory. “I think he put up a good performance, but there was no pace and he needs a truly run race,” said trainer Jean-Pierre Carvalho. “We'll take him home, see how he comes out of this and will then decide if we come back to France [for the June 3 G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly] or stay at home and aim him at the [July 8 G1 Deutsches Derby [at Hamburg].”

Study of Man is one of four scorers and the leading performer out of Second Happiness (Storm Cat) and he is kin to the 2-year-old colt Tiki (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and a filly foal by Galileo (Ire). His second dam is the storied MG1SW multiple champion Miesque (Nureyev), who produced MG1SW European highweight East of the Moon (Private Account) and the sires Kingmambo (Mr. Prospector), Miesque's Son (Mr. Prospector) and Mingun (A.P. Indy). Other descendants of Miesque feature the top-level winners Rumplestiltskin (Ire) (Danehill), Tapestry (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Karakontie (Jpn) (Bernstein), Real Steel (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) and Amanee (Aus) (Pivotal {GB}).
