Declaration of War's Peace Achieved Too Strong in Dixiana Bourbon

JSM Equine's Peace Achieved (Declaration of War) remained perfect in three tries at a route of ground, sitting a pace-pressing trip in Sunday's GIII Dixiana Bourbon S. before holding off a late rally from an unlucky Vitalogy (GB) (No Nay Never) to punch his ticket to the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita Nov. 2.

Showing his typical good early speed from gate 10, the 8-1 chance forced the pace outside of Field Pass (Lemon Drop Kid) as Gear Jockey (Twirling Candy) drafted in behind from third. The latter cut the corner into the stretch and perhaps poked a head in front, but Peace Achieved punched back, dueled heads apart into the final furlong and came away late for the victory. Vitalogy got over into about the four path after leaving from the widest stall in the field of 14 and was trapped off the track down the backstretch with cover. Steered out wide into the lane, he covered his final quarter-mile in a very strong :23.20 to miss narrowly while covering 20 more feet than the winner, according to Trakus data. Gear Jockey was steadied late by Tyler Gaffalione and rounded out the trifecta.

“The boss [Mark Casse] mentioned the inside being a little softer than the outside, so we had a great post position [10 of 14],” said winning rider Miguel Mena. “He came out of there running, and I just stayed a little wider for better ground. He was the best horse today–he's very nice.”

A 6 3/4-length maiden winner first time long at Ellis Park July 27, Peace Achieved was the winner of the Kentucky Downs Juvenile in his most recent appearance Aug. 31.

Pedigree Notes:

Peace Achieved becomes the 12 graded stakes winner for the expatriated Declaration of War and was produced by a half-sister to The Sense Angel (Mineshaft), dam of two-time restricted stakes winner Analyze The Odds. Second dam Golden Oriole was a full-sister to the multiple champion and influential sire El Gran Senor (Northern Dancer) and was the dam of GSW & MG1SP Castle Gandolfo (Gone West) and GISP Devonwood (Woodman). Sense of Class is the dam of a yearling colt by War Front's son Air Force Blue that fetched $280,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale and a colt foal by Cupid. She was most recently bred to Mission Impazible.
