Irish War Cry overcame some early greenness and gamely prevailed in a stretch battle to back up his 'TDN Rising Star' selection and narrowly capture this stakes debut. Debuting locally Nov. 11, the chestnut was an extremely impressive winner, making a sudden, wide move on the far turn and flying home in :23.01 for his final quarter en route to a 4 1/2-length tally. Hammered down to 3-10 for this stakes debut, Irish War Cry fought the rating attempt of his rider as he sat a close second through a :23.90 quarter set by fellow 'Rising Star' and last-out Swynford S. winner Undulated. Moving to the lead early on the turn, he was soon challenged by O Dionysus and engaged in a ding-dong battle with that one throughout the stretch before slimly prevailing. The winner's dam produced a yearling filly by Lookin At Lucky earlier this term before being bred back to Graydar.
