A trip to Chantilly for the Prix Robert Papin remains “plan A” for impressive Norfolk Stakes winner Orthodox after Clive Cox declared he was “over the moon” with how his high-class youngster has bounced out of Royal Ascot.
The speedy son of Havana Grey left his rivals trailing in his wake on just his second start at the Royal meeting. Cox immediately identified a trip to France for the Group 2 event he knows well and has won with Reckless Abandon (2012) and Tis Marvellous (2016) previously and now with more dust settled, it appears Orthodox is firmly on track for a Channel-hopping mission on July 19.
“I'm over the moon both with the way Orthodox won at Royal Ascot and how he has come out of the race,” said Cox.
“He did an easy bit of work a couple of days ago and I was delighted. He's in great order and he looks really pleased with himself as much as anything.
“Going to France for the Prix Robert Papin – it still seems the next logical step as long as all is well in the meantime and I would say that is very much plan A. We're very happy and very much on track at this stage.”
