City Zip Filly Goes Wire-to-Wire in Keeneland Debut

CHINA GROVE (f, 2, City Zip–Gatorette, by Distorted Humor) took solid support as the 2-1 second choice for this career debut and did not disappoint, leading wire-to-wire. The bay posted a series of swift works over the local strip earlier this month–including a bullet four-panel gate drill in :47 flat Apr. 16. Away to a sharp beginning, she showed the way through a quarter-mile in :22.20 with favored Taglia (Union Rags) closely in tow. Confronted by that rival in the lane, China Grove found more in midstretch and reported home two lengths in front, despite attempting to drift inward for much of the final furlong. The final time for 4 1/2 furlongs was :51.17. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $30,000.
