The National Stud celebrated the class of 2026 at the historic Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket on Friday.
MC Rod Street led the proceedings and awarding of certificates to the 42 graduates alongside legendary trainer Sir Mark Prescott. In his keynote address, Prescott encouraged students to make the most of every opportunity, maintain a professional attitude and always be on time, before sharing some insightful stories from his prolific career.
The annual ceremony recognises the achievements of the graduates who have completed the Level 1 and 2 Thoroughbred Industry Access course and the Level 3 Stud Management and Sales Consignment Course.
A number of students were also recognised with special awards for their achievements:
- Tim Dunlop Memorial Award for Best Student: Charlotte Mallett
- Watership Down Best Practical Award: Erin Wickham
- Alborada Trust Most Improved Award: Siddharth Naik
- John Pearce Foundation Award of Merit: Michelle Lage
- The National Stud Certificate of Recognition: Isshin Sunazaki
- Gerald Leigh Charitable Trust Scholarship for Career Development in the Thoroughbred Industry: Daisy Hydes and Charlotte Mallett
- Thoroughbred Industry Access Award for Best Student: Alexander Robinson
“The National Stud's annual graduation ceremony is always the most uplifting evening. Celebrating the hard work and dedication each graduate has put in over the course of their time with us is hugely rewarding for everyone involved,” said Anna Kerr, CEO of The National Stud. “I would like to particularly thank our funders, without whom we would not be able to deliver this programme. Their support and input are invaluable.”
The National Stud Education programme consists of the flagship Level 3 Stud Management and Sales Consignment course, the entry level Thoroughbred Industry Access course and a range of continued professional development awards covering topics such as foaling, transport and stud administration. The Education team welcomed more than 1,000 education visitors during 2025 and 89% of graduates from the past six years are working in the thoroughbred industry.
The 26-week Level 3 course begins on Monday, September 21, with applications due to close on Friday, August 7. Students gain hands-on experience across both the breeding and sales seasons, alongside practical training in stud management, foaling, neonatal care and sales preparation. Practical aspects of the course are complemented by the extensive Evening Lecture Programme, industry work placements and career guidance.
