Becoming the latest Pattern-race winner in the silks of Richard and Roisin Henry on Saturday, Catching The Moon (No Nay Never) came out on top in Ayr's G3 Firth of Clyde Stakes. Like the owners' 2022 Oh So Sharp winner Midnight Mile trained by Richard Fahey, the 15-2 shot who had opened her account at Beverley, travelled smoothly for Oisin Orr throughout the six-furlong feature and outstayed Lam Yai (Lucky Vega) to prevail by a neck.
“I travelled well and she probably didn't really enjoy the ground, but she got through it today. She's picked up and done it nicely,” Orr said of the granddaughter of the 2015 Pretty Polly heroine Diamondsandrubies (Fastnet Rock). “On better ground you will see her run better. She's a lovely filly and she's very straightforward. She's one of the nicer fillies and it's great to be on her.”
Fahey commented, “She's a nice filly and has been straightforward since day one. It looked a tough race, especially on that ground, and we were a little bit worried about that but she seemed to cope with it well. Oisin said she wasn't in love with the ground, but she never looked like getting beat to be fair which is always good, she's a true professional filly.”
“On pedigree she could go up in trip, but I'll just get her home for now and see how she is,” he added. “There are not that many races for them at this time of year and no easy races, especially after winning a Group 3. I'll speak to the owners and make a decision from there, but she's an exciting filly with a great mind and a great set of ears on her as well.”
Pedigree Notes
Catching The Moon is the first foal out of Riches And Rubies (Uncle Mo), a daughter of the aforementioned Diamondsandrubies whose best progeny was No Nay Never's Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up Pearls And Rubies. Also responsible for the Graded-Stakes-placed Stakes producer Diamond Sparkles (War Front), Diamondsandrubies is out of the owners' Quarter Moon (Sadler's Wells) who captured the Moyglare Stud Stakes and was runner-up in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Quarter Moon, whose Fillies' Mile-placed daughter You'll Be Mine (Kingmambo) produced the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano and G3 Craven Stakes winner and G1 Ranvet Stakes runner-up Eminent (Frankel), is a full-sister to the Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Yesterday. Riches And Rubies's 2024 and 2025 fillies are by St Mark's Basilica, while she was bred to Tapit this year.
