Rabbah Racing's Simon and Ed Crisford trainee Flann Sunna (Blue Point) notched an impressive debut score at Windsor last month and, penalised four pounds for that success, surged clear of toiling rivals in the closing stages of Friday's Knight Frank Conditions Stakes at Ascot to become his sire's sixth TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard.
“I really liked his performance [at Windsor] last time and the George Boughey horse [runner-up Perfect Nation] has come out and won since,” said winning rider Jack Mitchell. “He just seems to improve and he's very professional in everything that he does. We didn't go overly quick and the pace was just too slow. I didn't want to fight him, so just let him stride on. He's got a deadly turn of foot which he used again today.”
Positioned in a prominent second before easing ahead passing halfway, the 15-8 joint-favourite was never seriously threatened thereafter and quickened clear in highly impressive fashion to easily overpower Godolphin's Mysterious Times (Night Of Thunder) by 4 3/4 lengths.
Flann Sunna is the second of four foals and lone winner out of Listed Blenheim Stakes victrix Lady Princess (Exceed And Excel), herself a half-sister to Listed Premio Botticelli second Spiritual Son (Pour Moi).
His second dam Million Spirits (Invincible Spirit) is a multiple-winning half-sister to G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Elusive Wave (Elusive City).
The winner is a half-brother to a yearling colt by Sioux Nation and a weanling filly by Little Big Bear.
