Blame Colt 'Mucho' the Best in Rising Star Score at Saratoga

Mucho | Sarah Andrew

Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider homebred Mucho proved second time's a charm with a dominant graduation in a loaded maiden special weight at Saratoga Saturday. Runner-up behind Whiskey Echo (Tiznow)–who returned to be third in the GIII Sanford S. here opening weekend–June 10 at Big Sandy, he was bet all the way down to 2-1 favoritism from a 12-1 morning-line quote in this second attempt and came away well to track a pair of dueling leaders from third through a sharp :22.11 quarter. Sidling up to the pacesetters three deep on his own power nearing the straightaway, the bay easily took charge at the top of the lane and skipped clear from there to win for fun by 9 3/4 lengths. Fullness of Time (Flatter) ran on late to nail frontrunner and $550,000 OBSAPR purchase Justice of War (Strong Mandate) for second on the wire.

Mucho is a half-brother to Size (First Samurai), GSW, $212,453, who produced Blame colts in both 2017 and 2018. Their dam Extent is also responsible for a yearling colt by Speightstown and a 2018 colt by Curlin. She visited Ghostzapper this spring. Mucho hails from the family of Group 1 winner Archipenko (Kingmambo); French champion and top sire Sadler's Wells (Northern Dancer); and recent Jersey Girl S. winner and GIII Victory Ride S. third-place finisher Sower (Flatter).
