'TDN Rising Star' Bendable bent a little, but refused to break in the end, as she became the first horse to defeat Cal-bred Enola Gray with a hard-fought, front-running success in Sunday's Beverly J. Lewis S. at Los Alamitos. The Claiborne homebred, a full-sister to MGSW track-record setter Clearly Now, belied debut odds of 14-1 to break her maiden at first asking at Santa Anita June 3 and added a 2 1/4-length allowance success July 1. Bendable was involved in a protracted battle last time, but could not quite hold off fellow Rising Star Luminance (Tale of the Cat) and settled for an allowance second at Del Mar July 27. The bay dueled in the two path with Uptown Twirl (Twirling Candy) through a :22.36 quarter and saw off a new challenger in Everqueen past a :45.17 half when her first foe dropped away. Bendable appeared in some danger at mid-stretch, as Enola Gray loomed boldly, but the second choice kept digging and kept finding to the line as Enola Gray gave vain chase.
