Arch 'Rising Star' Stings Foes in Honeybee

Providing her stablemate and fellow 'TDN Rising Star' Unique Bella (Tapit) with the ultimate endorsement, It Tiz Well took her show on the road for Saturday's GIII Honeybee S. and overcame her own relative inexperience to post a game victory.

With the resurgent Corey Nakatani in the boot for the first time, It Tiz Well broke on her wrong lead, but then settled in the one-out and one-back spot from fourth with cover behind Tapa Tapa Tapa (Tapit) down the backstretch. Rousted along with a little less than three furlongs to race, It Tiz Well continued to gain ground and poked her nose in front, her head cocked noticeably to the right, at the top of the lane. With Nakatani tugging hard against her right rein in an attempt to get her to switch leads and to keep her off of Tapa Tapa Tapa to her inside, It Tiz Well responded nicely under left-handed urging to fend off a game Benner Island for the victory. 'TDN Rising Star' Elate, far back and off the track in the early going, found the line nicely to be third while no threat to the winner.

“[Trainer] Jerry [Hollendorfer] has had a lot of confidence in her obviously,” assistant trainer Don Chatlos told the Oaklawn notes team. “He ran her against Unique Bella a couple starts back. He thought this would be a good spot to get her away from her and get her around two turns. We're getting closer to the [GI] Kentucky Oaks. She's not going to find any easy spots and obviously this wasn't. It was a good test for her.”

Pedigree Notes:
It Tiz Well's dam, a half-sister to Sovereign Award-winning grass mare Solid Appeal (Successful Appeal), was a dual stakes winner on the Southern California circuit for trainer Mark Glatt. She is also kin to SP Meetmeinthewoods (General Meeting), the dam of SW Jimmy Bouncer (Square Eddie). It Tiz Well's stakes-winning third dam produced the stakes-winner Follow the Rainbow (Event of the Year). It Tiz is the dam of the 2-year-old filly End of Now (Ghostzapper), a $230,000 purchase by Jim and Susan Hill out of last year's Keeneland September sale, as well as a yearling filly by Scat Daddy. She was most recently bred to Ghostzapper's successful half-brother City Zip.
