Just the second lot in the ring on Sunday took the overall lead at Arqana's August Yearling Sale, with lot 82, a son of Wootton Bassett, bringing €2.4 million from Anthony Stroud for Godolphin. Coolmore were the underbidders.
He is the second millionaire at the sale, with Saturday's session topped by a son of Justify at €1.25 million which was also purchased by Stroud on behalf of Godolphin.
The full-brother to multiple group winner Top Gear is out of the winning Giant's Causeway mare Miss Lech. Consigned by Haras de l'Hotellerie, the bay is also kin to G1 Melbourne Cup hero and sire Americain.
Said Stroud, “He's an extremely nice colt and they are not making any more by Wootton Bassett. He's a lively, very good mover and, you know, you've got to go for the ones you really like. Of course, it is a great deal of money, but I have huge respect for Coolmore, who were bidding on him and they know what they are looking at when they are buying Wootton Bassetts.”
