American Patriot Rides Rail To Kent Score

War Front | Claiborne Farm

Hammered down to 8-5 favoritism from a 6-1 morning-line quote, American Patriot was woven in towards the rail by pilot Jose Ortiz and tracked from a close-up fourth, inside a pair of dueling rivals, as longshot He'll Pay ticked off opening splits of :24.61 and :48.29. Tipped to the pacesetter's outside to launch a bid turning for home, the dark bay collared that rival in mid-stretch and spurted clear late to score.

A close third as the favorite sprinting at Gulfstream Jan. 30, American Patriot completed the trifecta again by just a nose and neck as the 3-2 chalk next out when stretched to nine panels there Feb. 27. Trailing the field early on in his next start at Keeneland Apr. 10, he circled the field at the top of the lane and charged down the center of the stretch to get up just in time for a head success. Off slowly, the sophomore never ran a step when a non-factor 10th in the GII American Turf S. at Churchill May 7, but rebounded to clear his first-level allowance condition with a three-length victory going this distance at Belmont June 25.

American Patriot's dam Life Well Lived is a full-sister to UAE Highweight and G1 Dubai World Cup winner Well Armed (Tiznow), who was also a MGSW and GISP in the U.S. Her first foal Muqtaser (Distorted Humor) brought $525,000 at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale and the winner, who is her second foal, RNA'd for $850,000 at Keeneland September. She is also responsible for the unraced 2-year-old filly Well Humored (Distorted Humor) and produced a filly by Pioneerof the Nile Feb. 4. She was bred back to Super Saver.
