Al Shaqab's G3 Prix Djebel winner and G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas third Al Wukair (Ire) (Dream Ahead) has been ruled out of Sunday's G1 Prix du Jockey Club with a minor setback. Al Shaqab's Racing Manager Harry Herbert explained that while no specific issue has been identified, trainer Andre Fabre wasn't happy with the colt's general well-being.
“It's disappointing, but you can't run a horse like this in a Group 1 if they are not 100%,” Herbert said. “He's such an exciting horse and Andre didn't want to risk him. We will re-group now and try to get to the bottom of the problem, if there is one, and then go from there. I would say he's unlikely to go to the [G1] St James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot.”
Al Shaqab won't be without representation the Jockey Club, as part owners of race favourite and G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Brametot (Fr) (Rajsaman {Fr}) with Gerard Augustin-Normand.
