Acapulco Out of King's Stand

Acapulco | Racing Post

American raider Acapulco (Scat Daddy), who won the 2015 G2 Queen Mary S. at Royal Ascot last year before chasing home the re-opposing Mecca's Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the G1 Nunthorpe S. at York, has been withdrawn from the G1 King's Stand S. due to soft ground. Trainer Wesley Ward had been looking forward to the rematch, but the prospect of rain-softened ground has prompted him to withdraw the hulking chestnut, who races for a Coolmore conglomerate. Acapulco holds an entry in the G1 Commonwealth Cup on Friday and Ward is hoping conditions improve between now and then.

“The ground is just a little too soft for her to run in the King's Stand,” Ward said. “We'll see how we are looking on Friday. We're hopeful we'll be able to run, but we'll have to wait and see. It's disappointing. You can plan everything and do everything you can, but when Mother Nature gets involved there's nothing you can do.

Added Ward, “If she doesn't run on Friday, I'll have to sit down with the Coolmore boys and come up with another plan.”

Eddie Lynam trainee MG1SW Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {Ire}) was also scratched from the King's Stand due to the ground.
