Veteran trainer Dermot Weld will train recent GI Man O' War S. victress Zhukova (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) toward the G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly Oct. 1, according to Racing Post. The 5-year-old, who also won the G3 Enterprise S. at Leopardstown last September, looks to give her trainer an elusive Arc win after Harzand (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire})'s ninth-place run last October.
“Zhukova has come out of her win at Belmont in great shape and I'm very happy with her,” Weld told Racing Post. “We've mapped out her plans for the rest of the season and the plan is to run in the [G1] Yorkshire Oaks [on the Knavesmire] in August on the way to the Arc. She's done nothing but improve from day one. The older she gets, the better she gets and I thought her performance at Belmont was her best yet. She's a very talented mare.”
