York Target For Almanzor

French racing fans' loss could be British fans' gain as it looks like Jean Claude Rouget is planning two trips to York this summer with the brilliant Almanzor (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}). As the 4-year-old continues to come to the boil after being afflicted with a serious virus earlier in the year Rouget has pencilled in the G2 Skybet York S. July 29 as a possible starting point for the colt who racked up a stunning five-race winning streak last year culminating in a defeat of Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 QIPCO Champion S. at Ascot in October. Assuming Almanzor comes through his reappearance in pleasing fashion a return to the top level for the following month's G1 Juddmonte International would then be the objective. “The plan is to prepare him for July,” said Rouget. ” If he runs well, then hopefully he'll go back there for the Juddmonte International. The horse is okay now but we have two months' work to have him very well.”
