'Wonder' Filly Works for Travers

Wonder Gadot | Sarah Andrew

In her first work since a 5 3/4-length score over the boys in the July 24 Prince of Wales S., 'TDN Rising Star' Wonder Gadot (Medaglia d'Oro) breezed a half-mile in :48.07 Friday at Saratoga. Working on the main track shortly after 5:30 a.m., the sophomore filly covered the first quarter in :24 1/5 and galloped out five furlongs in 1:01. Her piece of work ranked fifth of 60 by time at the distance.

Aiming for the GI Runhappy Travers S. Aug. 25, Wonder Gadot will face colts for the third time after beating them in the first two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Queen's Plate and the aforementioned Prince of Wales. Campaigned by Gary Barber, Wonder Gadot was a multiple graded winner at two when named Canada's Champion 2-year-old filly and added a runner-up finish in the GI Kentucky Oaks, as well as placing in three other graded stakes, earlier this term.

“She got over [the work] really well,” said trainer Mark Casse. “Her first work back we didn't want her to do too much. That was as fancy as it gets. I would give it an A-plus.”

Casse added, “I am just confident when the dust clears, she is going to be part of the equation.”
