Who do you Admire? With Bret Jones

Bret Jones | Horsephotos

Brereton Jones has been my hero since the day the delivery doctors handed me to him,  but if asked to name someone I admire outside the Airdrie gates, I don't have to look beyond Woodford County. Wayne Lyster of Ashview Farm embodies all the qualities that truly make a person admirable. Yes, he and his family have had great success as breeders of champions Johannesburg and Runhappy to name just a few, but it is his integrity, candor and relationship with his family that earns Wayne the overwhelming respect he commands. If you want to know where Wayne stands on an issue, ask him. If you want someone to blindly agree with your own opinion, you'll want to ask someone else. Wayne's reputation for honesty is important to him, but nothing will ever be more important to him than his family–and if there's a tighter knit family than the Lysters, I'm yet to meet them. The bond and love that Wayne's children Meredith, Gray and Bryan share serves as my personal aspiration for my own three children, and when you see Wayne proudly duck into the tackroom of his busy November consignment to retrieve a Christmas Card featuring all eight of his grandchildren–you know right away that his personal measure of success extends far beyond the racetrack or foaling barn. Wayne and his wife Muffy–who, by the way, is deserving of her own article of admiration–have always done things the right way. They have treated people the right way. They have taught their children to do the same. Nothing, in my opinion, is more admirable.
