Well-Related More Than Ready Filly Stays Perfect at Churchill Downs

Magic Dance, tabbed as a 'TDN Rising Star' off an eye-catching runaway debut win at Churchill Downs June 7, stayed perfect while adding her first stakes victory here. The half-sister to recent GI Acorn S. heroine and fellow 'Rising Star' Guarana (Ghostzapper), off as the 1-5 favorite, sat just off a pair of dueling leaders through a sharp opening quarter in :21.51. She hit the gas while three/four wide on the far turn, and fought her way past a very game Cholula Lips in the stretch to record a career high. Josie (Race Day), second behind Magic Dance on debut, graduated impressively at Churchill Downs earlier this week.

Magic Dance's dam Magical World was campaigned by her breeder Phipps Stable and trainer Shug McGaughey and is a daughter of GI Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Pleasant Home (Seeking the World). This is the hugely potent Phipps family of the likes of Grade I winners Sky Beauty, Point of Entry, Pine Island, et al. Magical World produced a Pioneerof the Nile colt in 2018, but was barren when bred back to Into Mischief.

“This is a very special win for us for Three Chimneys Farm and this horse was broke at my parent's ranch in Laredo, Texas,” winning trainer Steve Asmussen said. “She proved today that the three-quarter distance was no problem.”

Jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. added, “She got herself into a perfect position early on in the race. She was ready to run today and fought back against [Cholula Lips] on our inside. That was a very nice performance.”
