Wednesday Breeders' Cup Workout Report

It was a relatively calm Wednesday morning at Del Mar with the vast majority of Breeders' Cup contenders having already completed their serious preparations and instead galloping or jogging. GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint contender Skye Diamonds (First Dude) was one notable exception, working three furlongs in :38 flat over the main track. Trained by Bill Spawr, the filly enters the World Championships off a pair of wins in the July 8 GII Great Lady M S. and the Aug. 13 GIII Rancho Bernardo H.

“You know, with horses like this you can have some hiccups, but I've had no hiccups with her,” said trainer Bill Spawr. “She has been perfect.”

GI Breeders' Cup Classic contender Gunnevera (Dialed In) got a bit more serious Wednesday morning, galloping 1 1/2 miles with the last three-eighths of the effort coming in an open gallop under exercise rider Victor O'Farrell.

“He did it very easy,” said trainer Antonio Sano. “He was really striding. My horse is a very fresh horse. I really like my horse.”
