War Front's War Decree Back With a Bang At Dundalk

Starting his career with a defeat of classy stablemate Orderofthegarter (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in a Leopardstown maiden in June, War Decree ran second to Boynton (More Than Ready) in the G2 Superlative S. at Newmarket early the following month before beating Thunder Snow (Ire) (Helmet {Aus}) and that rival in the G2 Vintage S. at Glorious Goodwood. When he reappeared in the G3 Craven S., there was still a sense that the handsome bay could be anything but he was only sixth of seven in that Newmarket Guineas prep Apr. 20 and was only seen once more when an encouraging fifth and beaten just over two lengths in the G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly June 4. Settled in third as the favourite Abingdon was eyeballed by Zenyatta's brother De Coronado (Street Cry {Ire}), he was visibly full of running in the straight and when given the command by Donnacha O'Brien seized the advantage approaching the furlong pole en route to an authoritative success. “He's a horse with a lot of natural talent,” his rider told Irish Racing.com. “He can be a little bit tricky at times, but it's nice to get him back to winning ways. He loves that surface and hard ground is what he needs. He had a little break after France, and that's a lovely prep for him if they do decide to go to America.”

War Decree is the second foal out of Royal Decree after the stakes-placed Noble Quality (Elusive Quality), with their dam being Ticker Tape, successful in the GI American Oaks Invitational and GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. She in turn is a half to this year's G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest hero Brando (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) and the dam of the G1 Middle Park S. and G1 Prix Morny-winning European highweight Reckless Abandon (GB) (Exchange Rate). The fourth dam Wiener Wald (Woodman) was responsible for the G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Crowded House (GB) (Rainbow Quest) and four other black-type performers, as well as the dam of the GII Lake George S. and GIII Appalachian S. winner Daring Dancer (Empire Maker). Royal Decree also has a 2-year-old colt by Speightstown and yearling and foal full-sisters to War Decree.
