Versatile Sire Poliglote Euthanized

French champion sire Poliglote (GB) (Sadler's Wells–Alexandrie, by Val de l'Orne {Fr}), winner of the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in 1994, was euthanized at Haras d'Etreham this past weekend, according to Jour de Galop. He was 26. Successful twice more at group level for owner/breeders Wertheimer and Frere, the bay also filled the frame in both the G1 Prix du Jockey Club in 1995 and in the 1996 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. He was retired with a record of 19-5-4-3 and earnings of $576,236.

At stud at Haras d'Etreham, Poliglote's best runner was 2012 G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine and highweight older mare Solemia (Ire). From 965 foals, Poliglote has 32 black-type winners, four at group level, including Irish Wells (Fr), who was runner-up in the G1 Prix Ganay, GSW & G1SP Hello Sunday (Fr) and GSW Adriana (Ger). He was France's leading flat sire in 2012, the same year he was honoured with that country's National Hunt title. The longtime Haras d'Etreham resident was pensioned earlier in 2018.
