Upstart Works For Met Mile

Ralph Evans and WinStar Farm's Upstart (Flatter) turned in his final breeze for the June 11 GI Metropolitan H. Friday morning at Belmont, covering five furlongs in 1:00.

“It was exactly what we wanted to do,” trainer Rick Violette reported. “He got a good blow out of it, finished fast, galloped out great and cooled out well.”

Upstart did not work with blinkers Friday, but he will race with them in the Met Mile and worked with them on May 21, covering a half-mile in :46.06.

“I didn't want to breeze him with blinkers too many times,” Violette said. “He went so fast with them the last time that he had them on and we didn't need to do it again.”

My Meadowview Farm homebred and GSW Samraat (Noble Causeway) also worked Friday in preparation for the GII Brooklyn Invitational S. June 11.

“He's doing great,” said Violette. “He went three-quarters in 13 and galloped out the last eighth in :11 4/5 – which was terrific.”
