+LAYLA (f, 3, Union Rags&log=">Union Rags–I'm a Flake, by Mineshaft) took all the money for her debut at Delaware and cruised to a good-looking frontrunning success. Coming in with a steady worktab, capped by a three-furlong bullet in :35 1/5 (1/14) July 5 on the Oklahoma training surface at Saratoga, the Dixiana Farms homebred was odds-on for the duration of the wagering and broke as the 9-10 choice. Bobbling just a bit after kicking well from her outside stall, the bay made a clear lead just a few strides out, and showed the way through a :22.01. Challenged to her outside by second choice Americana (Tapit) passing the five-sixteenths pole, Layla was shaken up at the top of the lane by Nik Juarez and soon discarded her pursuer, drawing clear by the eighth pole and coasting home 3 3/4 lengths to the good in a sharp clocking. The winner's dam, a $290,000 KEENOV pickup in 2011, is responsible for a 2-year-old Tiznow colt named Praetorian, who sold for $850,000 to Alex and JoAnn Lieblong at OBS March after breezing a quarter-mile in :20 4/5. She foaled a full-brother to the winner Apr. 13. Layla shares a second dam, 1992's GI Alabama S. and GI Test S. heroine November Snow (Storm Cat), with GISW and freshman sire Morning Line (Tiznow). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $20,400. Click for the Equibase.comchart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
