Uncle Mo Filly Dominates The Hut Hut

Miss Mo Mentum was coming off an impressive 3 3/4-length score under the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs Nov. 16.

The 8-5 favorite settled into midpack down the long backstretch on the outside of rivals and in the clear. Under the confident handling of Tyler Gaffalione, Miss Mo Mentum ranged alongside the leaders at the top of the stretch and began to pull away inside the final furlong without being asked for her best and was geared down at the wire for a convincing victory.

“Mark told me to let her settle out of the gate, so I just put my hands down and let her get into a comfortable stride,” said Gaffalione. “She started to pick them up on her own around the turn. I even had to slow her down a little bit because I didn't want her to get to the lead too early.”

Miss Mo Mentumgraduated fourth out on the Churchill turf Sept. 23, but was last of 14 in Keeneland's grassy GIII Jessamine S. Oct. 11.

Her third dam is GSW Ziggy's Act (Danzig). This is the first stakes winner out of Somalia (Mineshaft), who also has a yearling filly by Data Link and was visited by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah this season. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
