Uncle Mo Colt Lives Up to the Hype at Gulfstream

Pounded down into 4-5 favoritism off a promising runner-up effort on his Dec. 19 debut, Repole Stable's Mo Power (c, 3, Uncle Mo–Rhiana, by Runaway Groom) stretched out to the one-turn mile Saturday afternoon and graduated my a measured one-length margin. Drawn gate 10 for this second racetrack appearance, the $60,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $325,000 OBS April graduate showed enough early toe to track the early pace set by chief market rival Dixie Runner (Flatter) before turning the pressure up as they left the far turn. Dixie Runner plugged away gamely down at the inside, but Mo Power knuckled down, drove to the front inside the final furlong and went on to score by a length. Doctor Mounty (Street Sense) came with a four-wide run on the turn and stayed on nicely down the center of the track to finish second, well clear of a tiring Dixie Runner in third. Final time for the mile was 1:36.79. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0. O-Repole Stable. B-Meadow Oaks Farm LLC & Dr Frank Justice (KY).
