This year's G1 Juddmonte International and G1 Coral-Eclipse S. winner Ulysses (Ire), by Galileo (Ire) out of the G1 Epsom Oaks winner Light Shift (Kingmambo), will enter stud next year at Cheveley Park Stud after David and Patricia Thompson's operation purchased a majority share in the 4-year-old. Ulysses, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, will continue to race in the colours of Flaxman Holdings for the remainder of the year, with his next intended start being next weekend's G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Ulysses was considered promising enough to contest the G1 Investec Derby last year off a maiden win, but the blue riband proved to be too much too soon for the blueblooded colt, who checked in 12th. He quickly rebounded to take the G3 Gordon S. and finished off the year with a fourth behind Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf. He has won or hit the board in all five starts this campaign, winning Sandown's G3 Gordon Richards S. ahead of a third in the G1 Prince of Wales's S. He then bested top 3-year-old Barney Roy (Ire) (Excelebration {Ire}) in the Coral-Eclipse, and was beaten only by Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. Ulysses beat dual Guineas winner Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) by two lengths in the Juddmonte International on Aug. 23.

Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director Chris Richardson said, “David and Patricia Thompson are delighted to have acquired a significant interest in Ulysses, who certainly adds a notable and exciting element to the portfolio of stallions available at Cheveley Park Stud, for both domestic and international breeders.”
