Trainer Michael Trombetta's pair of A P Majetstic (Majestic Warrior) and In the Navy Now (Midshipman) are coming into Friday's GII Black-Eyed Susan S. at Pimlico in good form. The duo filled the top two spots in Laurel's 1 1/16-mile Weber City Miss S. Apr. 9 (Video), with In the Navy Now passing the post a length in front, only to be disqualified and placed behind her stablemate due to a herding incident in the stretch. The Weber City win gave A P Majetstic an automatic entry into the 1 1/8-mile Black-Eyed Susan. Both Trombetta trainees received positive updates Monday in advance of their first try in graded company.

“They're both doing well and they both trained good since they ran last time,” an upbeat Trombetta told the TDN. “I'm looking for them to be absolutely at their best to even try at this, and so far they seem to be very well.”

Triple Threat LLC's homebred A P Majetstic worked three furlongs at Laurel Park in :37 flat (2/13) Monday morning. In seven starts, the bay has yet to cross the wire first, but has been on the winning side of a trio of disqualifications. The stewards awarded her the victory against fellow PA-breds at Penn National after crossing the wire second Sept. 23, and in her very next effort she was promoted from third to second going a mile there Oct. 29. Bouncing back with a second and a third in two Laurel optional claimers, Nov. 27 and Jan. 3, respectively, the daughter of Annette's Jet (Golden Missile) was sixth to Busher S. heroine and GII Gazelle S. third Mo d'Amour (Uncle Mo) Feb. 6. Only fourth in a Parx allowance Mar. 5, A P Majetstic earned a career-high Beyer of 72 in her runner-up effort to In the Navy Now (76 Beyer) Apr. 9.

In the Navy Now, a Laurel stalwart since a fourth-place run in her career bow Oct. 23, got off the mark four starts later going a mile there Jan. 30. Third in the Caesar's Wish S. Mar. 12 prior to her Weber City Miss second, the R. Larry Johnson and R. D. M. Racing Stable silksbearer breezed a half-mile in :49 flat (4/20) over the Fair Hill dirt May 14.

“Their works have been good,” continued Trombetta. “They like to train and they are very easy [to deal with].”

When asked if either filly, who will be trying the nine-furlong distance for the first time–had an edge over the other, Trombetta responded, “Well, they found themselves at the end last time, so you know they were kind of evenly matched. Now, this is a little bit of a different distance, but we'll see how it goes.”
