Trenchard Tops Dubai Sale

The 3-year-old colt Trenchard (Elusive Quality), winner of a Kempton handicap in April for John Gosden, drew the top price of AED700,000 (£141,191/€158,889) at Saturday's Racing In Dubai sale at Meydan. A half-brother to stakes winners Banner Bill (Rockport Harbor) and Third Chance (Kafwain) and the graded-placed Zulu (Bernardini), Trenchard was purchased by trainer Mike de Kock. Trenchard had been a $285,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland September in 2015.

Leading buyer at the sale was local trainer Ali Rashid Al Rayhi, who bought six total including the AED300,000 (£60,421/€68,095) Janszoon (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), a 3-year-old gelded half-brother to Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Laughing Lashes (Mr. Greeley). Janszoon bested the smart router UAE King (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in a Lingfield maiden in May.

More than AED5-million (£1,007,016/€1,134,640) in total was spent on the 46 horses offered at Meydan. The average price was AED110,000 (£22,154/€24,962), with four horses exceeding AED300,000.
