Beautiful Shot took advantage of a fast pace and rallied to the lead late to upset heavily favored 'TDN Rising Star' Mourinho in the Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita. Showing a strong stretch punch to nail well-regarded Nero (Pioneerof the Nile) on the wire first out Aug. 27, the $105,000 OBS April buy was made the distant 4-1 second choice behind 1-5 Mourinho in this stakes debut and settled in fifth as the favorite dueled three wide on a scorching :21.32 quarter. Mourinho kicked away from his pace challengers midway around the turn and went clear into the lane, but started to shorten stride noticeably at the eighth pole and Beautiful Shot, after drifting in a bit during his rally, straightened out to run down the favorite with 70 yards to go.
