Too Darn Hot to Miss Guineas

Too Darn Hot | Racing Post

Undefeated G1SW Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) has been ruled out of an intended start in the May 4 G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket by trainer John Gosden, Racing Post reported Sunday afternoon. Previously pointed at the G3 Greenham S. won by Mohaather (GB) (Showcasing {GB}), the G1 Darley Dewhurst S. hero and English highweighted juvenile colt missed an intended start in that Classic pointer due to heat in a splint bone. The Lord Lloyd-Webber colourbearer previously scored in a Sandown maiden in August, the G3 Solario S., and the G2 Champagne S. prior to his Group 1 win.

“Although he's shown great improvement in the last nine days, Too Darn Hot will not be ready in time to run in the 2000 Guineas,” Gosden said of the 'TDN Rising Star' to Racing Post. “It's unfortunate but it's only two weeks away and that does not allow us sufficient time to get the required work into him. Consequently he'll miss Newmarket. The two races we have in mind now are both next month, the [May 16] G2 Dante S. at York and the [May 25] G1 Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh.”

After Too Darn Hot's defection, the Coolmore partners' G1 Middle Park S. victor and fellow 'Rising Star' Ten Sovereigns (Ire) (No Nay Never) is the new Guineas favourite, while Too Darn Hot remains the June 1 G1 Investec Derby pick at 6-1.
