Theory Returns in Futurity

The China Horse Club enjoyed their first Grade I success in America last Saturday when Yellow Agate (Gemologist) captured the GI Frizette S. The rapidly rising organization looks to capture another graded event for juveniles this Saturday with another offspring of that freshman sire when Theory (Gemologist), whom they own in partnership with WinStar, lines up in Belmont's GII Futurity S. One of the most impressive maiden winners of the Saratoga meet, the Todd Pletcher trainee romped by 5 1/2 lengths over Reckling (Dialed In) July 30 to become a “TDN Rising Star,” after which he was briefly sidelined with what turned out to be a foot bruise. Forced to miss the GI Hopeful S. and GI Champagne S. while recovering from that issue, the bay returns in this spot off a bullet five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 over the training track Oct. 10.

“I thought he worked great,” said Pletcher. “As soon as I watched him work, I entered him. I feel good [about the race]. He's had four good breezes since he got here. We're fortunate that we got to work around the weather a little bit. Everything has gone according to plan.”

William and Corinne Heiligbrodt's Reckling further flattered Theory with a front-running score against a solid field of juveniles on Travers day Aug. 27. The form of that race was also franked when runner-up Mo Town (Uncle Mo) graduated with a “TDN Rising Star”-worthy effort at Belmont Sept. 24. Trainer Jeremiah Englehart saddles another interesting contender in debut winner Moves Like Ali (Maclean's Music), who went wire to wire to capture a six-furlong test at the Spa on closing weekend Sept. 4.
